Sunday Summer Music Series feat. "BLUE RIDGE BETTY"

“We love discovering new regional acts here, and the latest is this band out of Asheville, with this debut recorded in Weaverville. Singer/songwriter Lindsey Wall, who also plays fiddle and mandolin, has this to say about their debut: “This album captures a period of time filled with uncertainty, longing, and hope. After Hurricane Helene ravaged our community in Western NC, feelings that I never confronted before came bubbling to the surface. I coped by writing songs. I stopped caring how my musical ideas or words might be judged. So I shared these songs with my friends, who encouraged me and lent me their creative ideas, time, and musicianship.” Other members include Ross Wall, Nik Haase, Thomas Minton, Maria Mason-Freeman, Nate Ballinger, and Will Wittmeier.” -Martin Anderson

Innocent Mischief

Emily Martin and her band is a blend of intrepid lyrics and modern folk-mountain sound, born in Asheville, North Carolina. Cheeky-haunting originals collage with covers that explore the edge where change and tradition meet, asking open-ended questions.

Emily found Sarah Schultz (violin, mandolin, vocals, keys) and Bryan Streett (guitar, harmonica, vocals) through the good grace of fate, but her sister Charlotte Martin (vocals) cinched the line-up, and Josh Anderson joined in 2024 adding bass guitar to the sound. While occasionally calling on other local musicians to provide drums and pedal steel for performances and recording, the band is a collaborative force inspired by Em’s original songwriting.

Emily and her band can be found performing mainly in the WNC region under the name Innocent Mischief. Having a penchant for the sweet spots of arrangement and connection, their sound is tinged with nostalgia and leaves a hopeful resonance.  She weaves themes of personal evolution, levity, and enigmatic cycles of living in her writing—the collection reverberates a soulful-vulnerable yet cynical realness. Innocent Mischief creates music that guides audiences to listen more deeply and move in a restorative direction towards their own human nature.

Skeeto’s Ghost

Skeeto’s Ghost

Out of the steamy, sweltering heart of south Alabama, where the red clay bakes beneath a relentless sun, Sketoe's Ghost sprang forth! 👻 Then like a renegade tumbleweed on a wild spree, it wandered... soaking up a myriad of musical influences, and evolving into a style so untamed, it resists those pruning shears-wielding sticklers who might insist such unbridled exploration be reduced to rigidly-tidied genres.

Rooted in the gritty sounds of southern Americana, yet branching out into dimensions of soul, funk, and rock, while sprouting unpredictable tendrils of bluegrass, punk, and even Latin rhythms, their music is a dense thicket; intertwined with kudzu-like jams that expertly weave amidst well-crafted songs howling with evocatively insightful lyrics.

Now, having taken root in the fecund soils of western North Carolina, Sketoe’s Ghost has added yet more fresh elements to their already potent bubbling brew, resulting in a musical garden that blossoms with a most tantalizing fruit — perfect for producing those sweet sweet southern jams in a sonic feast that's as intoxicating as it is addictive!
